The Little Flowers Dance and Theatre Troupe is an offshoot of The Little Flowers Catholic Girls Club founded by director/choreographer Simonetta Pacek, a Catholic homeschool mother and well-known Catholic singer-songwriter. Simonetta founded The Little Flowers Club in 1996 to offer her daughters the opportunity for wholesome and Catholic interaction with other homeschooled girls their own age. The group meets monthly for a full day, and studies the virtues and their application to their own lives, in addition to singing and doing crafts such as sewing and baking. The Little Flowers Catholic Girls’ Club currently boasts over 70 girls in three different age groups. The Dance and Theatre Troupe sponsors a series of well-attended, original theatrical performances each year, including a refreshing and creative combination of traditional folk, ballet, and modern dance, resulting in a unique and inviting performance appropriate for all ages. The 2008 Illinois Catholic Homeschool Conference and Vendor Fair is pleased to have a special appearance of The Little Flowers!
About Folk Dancing:
Common to many different cultures, folk dancing consists of patterned dances for men, women,
or both combined. Often telling folk stories common to the ethnic heritage of the particular
dancers, folk dancing has a long and illustrious history in Europe, the Middle East and South
America and in similar forms in many other parts of the world. Common folk dance topics focus
on universal concepts of planting, harvesting, courtship, and other simple and wholesome themes.
Folk dancing is unique for its modesty and purity, having its roots in a simpler and more rural
time. Folk dances can be quite intricate and elaborate involving both very large and small
numbers of dancers; full group, pairs and single dancer movements can occur. Simonetta brings
an Eastern European, specifically Lithuanian, folk dancing style to The Little Flowers Dancers.
